The Cisco AIR-CAP2702I-x-K9 belongs to the Aironet 2700 Series, enterprise CAPWAP lightweight access point built for the Cisco Unified Wireless Network (CUWN) architecture. This lightweight variantcannot operate standalone. It must establish encrypted CAPWAP control tunnels to an AireOS wireless LAN controller for all configuration, security rules, RF resource management and mobility services.
Two independent radios transmit simultaneously with 3×4 MIMO architecture supporting three spatial streams:
  • 2.4 GHz: IEEE 802.11b/g/n, maximum PHY rate 450 Mbps
  • 5 GHz: IEEE 802.11a/n/ac Wave 1, maximum PHY rate 867 Mbps
    Aggregate theoretical throughput reaches 1.3 Gbps. Integrated omnidirectional diversity antennas deliver balanced indoor coverage for medium-to-large enterprise offices, high-density conference areas and retail sites. The low-profile plastic enclosure supports standard ceiling tile and wall mounting.
Power behavior difference: When powered by 802.3af PoE, radio capability downgrades to 3×3 MIMO; full 3×4 MIMO performance requires 802.3at PoE+. The platform features upgraded Cisco M-Drive technologies: CleanAir spectrum intelligence supporting 80 MHz channel analysis, ClientLink 3.0 beamforming to improve throughput for legacy single-stream clients, BandSelect to steer dual-band capable clients to less congested 5 GHz, VideoStream optimized multicast for video applications, and Optimized AP Roaming for seamless client handoff.
