(Suffix "x" denotes regional regulatory domain: A=USA, E=Europe, C=China, K=Korea, etc.)

2. Full Product Overview

The Cisco AIR-LAP1252AG-x-K9 belongs to the Aironet 1250 Series, factory-shipped lightweight LWAPP/CAPWAP access point built for the Cisco Unified Wireless Network (CUWN) architecture. Unlike autonomous AIR-AP1252AG-x-K9, this lightweight variantcannot operate standalone. It must establish an encrypted LWAPP/CAPWAP control tunnel to an AireOS wireless LAN controller for all configuration, security policy, RF management and mobility services.
Two independent active radios operate simultaneously with 2×3 MIMO technology:
  • 2.4 GHz: IEEE 802.11b/g/n Draft 2.0, maximum PHY rate 300 Mbps
  • 5 GHz: IEEE 802.11a/n Draft 2.0, maximum PHY rate 300 Mbps
Six RP-TNC antenna ports (3 per radio) enable flexible deployment of omnidirectional, directional, sector or high-gain external antennas to customize RF coverage for warehouses, manufacturing facilities and large retail sites. The rugged modular metal chassis supports an extended operating temperature range suitable for semi-industrial indoor environments.
Network connectivity includes a Gigabit Ethernet port. Power options include IEEE 802.3af PoE to simplify ceiling and wall mounting, plus optional external 48 VDC power supply. Hardware-assisted AES encryption delivers full WPA2 enterprise security without throughput degradation. All WLAN definitions, roaming parameters, QoS and threat detection policies are centrally managed on the wireless controller. It supports Layer 2 / Layer 3 inter-controller roaming, wireless intrusion detection and prevention (WIDS/WIPS), rogue AP containment, and WMM voice prioritization optimized for VoWLAN deployments.
Lifecycle Status: AIR-LAP1252AG-x-K9 reached End-of-Sale (EoS) and End-of-Support (EoL). Compatible only with legacy AireOS WLC platforms;incompatible with modern Catalyst 9800 IOS-XE wireless controllers. Successor models include 3500 series and later Wi‑Fi 6 Catalyst access points. Bidirectional firmware conversion between lightweight LWAPP and autonomous IOS images is supported via TFTP.
Key Differentiator vs AIR-LAP1242AG-x-K9: Adds 802.11n MIMO technology, Gigabit Ethernet, six RP-TNC antenna ports (3 per radio), higher throughput capacity and improved multipath resistance. Difference from AIR-AP1252AG-x-K9: AIR-LAP1252AG ships lightweight LWAPP firmware requiring an AireOS WLC; AIR-AP1252AG boots autonomous IOS for standalone operation.
