2. Full Product Overview
The Cisco AIR-CT7510-K9 is the base hardware chassis of the discontinued Cisco Flex 7500 Series wireless LAN controller family, purpose-built as a centralized cloud controller for large-scale multi-site enterprise branch architectures. Unlike fixed AP-count SKUs (AIR-CT7510-300/500/1K/2K-K9), this bare chassis shipswithout embedded AP capacity licenses. Administrators must purchase separate Right-To-Use (RTU) AP adder licenses to define how many lightweight Aironet access points the unit can manage.
The Flex 7510 platform is optimized exclusively forFlexConnect distributed branch deployments. It enables APs deployed at remote offices to switch user traffic locally at the branch while receiving centralized control, policy, RF management, authentication and firmware updates from the datacenter controller. This architecture minimizes inter-site WAN bandwidth consumption and avoids backhauling all wireless user traffic to headquarters. It terminates DTLS encrypted CAPWAP tunnels from remote lightweight APs, delivering unified RF orchestration, enterprise wireless security, Layer 2/3 client mobility, VoWLAN QoS, guest access services and embedded wIPS wireless intrusion prevention.
Equipped with dual 10G SFP+ uplink ports, the appliance supports high-volume CAPWAP tunnel termination for thousands of distributed branch APs. It features hot-swappable redundant fans and optional dual redundant power supplies to eliminate single points of hardware failure for mission-critical multi-branch wireless networks. Supported high availability: AP Stateful Switchover (AP SSO), which synchronizes AP registration and CAPWAP tunnel state between redundant controllers; active client session synchronization is not supported.
Cisco marked the entire Flex 7510 Series End-of-Sale (EoS) April 10, 2017 and End-of-Support (EoL) April 30, 2022; all available inventory consists of surplus, used or certified refurbished hardware. It interoperates with all Aironet 1700/2700/3700 lightweight 802.11ac Wave1 access points. Management options include local HTTPS web GUI, IOS-based SSH CLI, and centralized orchestration via Cisco Prime Infrastructure.
Key Differentiator vs campus-focused WLCs (5508/5760/5520): Optimized for FlexConnect multi-branch topology, supports up to 2,000 independent FlexConnect branch groups, built for managing geographically dispersed remote APs rather than dense on-site campus access points.
